Employees of West Bengal State Government have been agitating for a long time demanding increase in dearness allowance. There were no protests, agitations, court cases left. But the state government is adamant on its demands. While the salaries of MLAs have been increased significantly, civil servants remain bratyas.

Dearness allowance of central government employees increased to 46 percent from July 1, 2023. But state government employees are still getting 6 percent dearness allowance. That means the difference has increased to 40 percent. State government employees earn much less than central employees for the same post.
