The central government has announced new dearness allowance for central employees across the country. The Central Government has increased the Dearness Allowance (DA) of government employees by 4 percent as per All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI). Earlier on March 24, a 4 percent increase in DA was announced, as a result of which the Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees had increased to 42 percent from January 1, 2023. Now on October 18, 4 percent more dearness allowance has been announced. Due to this, now central government employees will get dearness allowance at the rate of 46 percent.
Although this dearness allowance was announced on October 18, it will be effective from July 1, 2023. This means that central government employees will get 3 months’ outstanding dearness allowance as per the sector. Almost from Diwali, a huge amount of money is going to come into the pockets of the central government employees.
Employees of West Bengal State Government have been agitating for a long time demanding increase in dearness allowance. There were no protests, agitations, court cases left. But the state government is adamant on its demands. While the salaries of MLAs have been increased significantly, civil servants remain bratyas.
Dearness allowance of central government employees increased to 46 percent from July 1, 2023. But state government employees are still getting 6 percent dearness allowance. That means the difference has increased to 40 percent. State government employees earn much less than central employees for the same post. Therefore, the state government employees are demanding that the DA of the state government employees should be increased as per the AICPI schedule.
Here is an example of a salary hike for a central government employee. The basic salary of 8th pay level employee starts from Tk 47600. He was getting a huge allowance of Rs 19992 at the rate of 42 per cent. This time another increase of 4 percent i.e. 46 percent rate of dearness allowance is effective, they will get Rs 21896 as dearness allowance. In other words, the salary increase will be Rs 1904 per month. And that employee will get Rs 1904 X 3 = Rs 5712 as three months area.
