Rain Alert Before Diwali! South Bengal to Witness Thunderstorms This Weekend, IMD Issues Warning

South Bengal Weather: Just as the residents of South Bengal were beginning to enjoy the pleasant autumn weather with dry mornings and cool nights, the Alipore Meteorological Department has issued a new rain alert. The festive spirit leading up to Diwali and Kali Puja might be slightly dampened, as rainfall is predicted to make a comeback over the upcoming weekend. The weather office has forecast a significant change in weather patterns, bringing thunderstorms and gusty winds to several districts.
Rain Forecast for South Bengal
According to the latest update from the Alipore Weather Office, the weather is set to change this weekend. A forecast for thunderstorms has been issued for Saturday and Sunday in multiple districts of South Bengal. Residents are advised to be cautious due to the risk of lightning strikes associated with these storms.
The districts expected to be most affected are:
- North 24 Parganas
- South 24 Parganas
- East Medinipur
These areas are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. Furthermore, a warning has been issued for the coastal districts, where gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kilometres per hour are expected to blow, potentially disrupting pre-Diwali preparations and outdoor activities.
Weather Outlook for North Bengal
While South Bengal braces for rain, the weather in North Bengal is expected to be relatively stable. The forecast indicates a possibility of light rain in the hilly regions, specifically in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Jalpaiguri, towards the end of the week.
However, the remaining districts of North Bengal are predicted to remain largely dry. The region continues to experience a noticeable drop in temperature during the early mornings and late nights, signalling the gradual arrival of winter. The overall weather is expected to remain pleasant, with no major disruptions forecast. Citizens are advised to stay updated with the latest bulletins from the weather department as the weekend approaches.
