Instagram Watch History: Here is some great news for Instagram users. It often happens that a favourite Reel gets lost after a feed refresh or due to an incoming phone call. Finding that specific video again can be quite a challenge. To solve this common yet frustrating problem, the Meta-owned social media platform has rolled out a new feature called ‘Watch History’. The update, announced on Friday, is designed to help users easily revisit Reels they have previously watched.

Announcing the new feature, Instagram head Adam Mosseri said, “Have you ever tried to get back to a Reel that you’d seen on Instagram and you just can’t find it? Well, there is a new feature that should help. If you go to ‘Profile’ and under ‘Settings,’ then ‘Your Activity,’ you’ll find Watch History, where you can see every Reel you’ve watched.”

How to Use This Feature?

Using this new feature is extremely simple. Users can access their list of watched Reels by following a few easy steps:

  1. First, navigate to your Instagram profile.
  2. Tap on the three lines (hamburger menu) in the top-right corner.
  3. From there, select the ‘Your Activity’ option.
  4. Within this section, you will find the new ‘Watch History’ option.
  5. Tapping on it will reveal a list of all the Reels you have recently viewed.

Benefits of the ‘Watch History’ Feature

This feature comes with several advantages for users. It doesn’t just display a list of watched videos but also offers multiple options to make it more functional.

  • Sorting Options: Users can sort their watched Reels by date. You can also search for videos from the past week, past month, or even a specific date range.
  • User Control: If you wish to remove a video from your history, that option is also available.
  • Better than TikTok’s Version: While TikTok has a similar feature, Instagram’s ‘Watch History’ offers more flexibility. Users can view videos in chronological or reverse chronological order and can also filter them by the author.

This update is part of Meta’s ongoing efforts to enhance Instagram Reels with features inspired by its competitor, TikTok, making it more competitive. In recent months, Instagram has also added the ability for creators to link multiple Reels in a series and introduced Picture-in-Picture support, both features that were already available on TikTok.
