SIR Documents List

SIR Documents List: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process for the voter list in West Bengal is set to begin soon. According to various news sources, this state-wide initiative could be announced from November 1st. The Election Commission has clarified that despite debates across the country, this process will continue to verify and correct voter information. For this process, certain important documents need to be submitted. To ensure your name is not removed from the list, keep the necessary paperwork ready in advance.

In this revision process, new voters will be added, and the names of deceased, illegal, or fake voters will be removed from the list. Booth Level Officers (BLO) will visit homes to verify documents. Therefore, if you do not have the correct paperwork, there is a risk of your name being struck off the list.

List of 11 Important Documents (SIR Documents List)

The Election Commission has specified 11 valid documents for identity and age verification. Having any one of these will suffice.

  • ID card or pension certificate of central or state government employees.
  • Any government document issued before July 1, 1987, such as bank or post office papers.
  • Birth Certificate issued by the competent authority.
  • Passport.
  • Certificate from a secondary or higher education board or university.
  • Proof of permanent residence issued by the state authority.
  • Forest Rights Certificate (for specific communities).
  • Caste Certificate (SC, ST, or OBC Certificate).
  • National Register of Citizens (where applicable).
  • State family registration document.
  • Allotment letter for government land or house.

Revision Rules Based on Date of Birth

For the voter list revision, applicants have been divided into three different categories based on their year of birth, with different rules for each.

1. Born before July 1, 1987:
For those born before this date, the process is quite simple. Submitting any one of the 11 documents mentioned above will be enough. If your name is on the West Bengal voter list of 2002, a copy of that page is sufficient, and no other document will be required. However, if your name is not on the 2002 list, you will need to submit a copy of your father’s or mother’s name from the 2002 list. If that is also unavailable, one of the 11 documents mentioned above must be submitted.

2. Born between July 1, 1987, and January 1, 2002:
If you were born during this period, you will need to submit two documents. One from the list of 11 for yourself, and one document for your father or mother. For your parents, a copy of their name in the 2002 voter list or any one of the 11 listed documents can be provided.

3. Born after January 1, 2002:
Those born after 2002 may need to submit three documents: one for themselves and two for their parents. The verification process for this group might be more stringent, so it is important to prepare by carefully following the Election Commission’s guidelines.

Political debate has already started in West Bengal even before the SIR process begins. However, the Election Commission has stated that this is a normal procedure and will be conducted smoothly. If you do not possess any of the 11 documents mentioned above and if neither your name nor any family member’s name is on the 2002 voter list, you will have to provide a valid reason. Whether your name remains on the list will depend on your documents and the Election Commission’s review.
